A DREAMER in America

A DREAMER’s Journey. A Congressman of DREAMERS.

A conversation with Lidia Diaz, a 24-year-old Dreamer of Omaha, Nebraska and Republican Congressman Don Bacon of Nebraska, who voted yes for the American Dream and Promise Act of 2019 in the House of Representatives, on June 4, 2019.

Diaz, who does not have the right to travel outside of the United States, says that although she was not born here, she perceives herself as American. Rep. Bacon says that Dreamers “are here by no fault of their own, they have been raised and have gone to school here, and they should be Americans.”

Although he voted for the Dream Act, Rep. Bacon predicts that DACA will pass the Senate only if it is part of a comprehensive immigration plan that would include and address the situation at the southern border as well. The key to such plan? Compromise between the two parties.

Congressman Bacon says that it is a failure of the Republican party to not reach out to immigrant citizens.
